Please answer:
HP:
- 2nd Generation i5 core processor (2.4 up to 3.0ghz)
- 4GB DDR3 SDRAM
- 15.6″
- 500GB hard drive (5400 rpm)
- Intel® HD Graphics 3000 (up to 1696MB video memory)
- 3 USB 2.0 ports
- 1.3 MP webcam
($ 499.99 + $ 30 tax)
or
Lenovo Ideapad
- 2nd Gen i5 core processor (same speeds)
- 6 GB DDR3
- 15.6″
- 750GB (5400rpm)
- Intel HD 3000 graphics
- 2.0 MP webcam
- 4 usb 2.0 ports
($ 599.99 + $ 37.50 tax)
I really want to choose between these two, but I’m also considering (though dont have much faith in) a gateway. Which has pretty much all the same (except a few minor differences for better or worse – for example, one of its usbs is a 3.0, but its dedicated memory is only 128mb whilist hps is 1696mb – and perhaps on the biggest drawback.. its a gateway) specs as the HP for $ 449.99 plus $ 30 tax.
Which is the best deal?
I’ll be doing video editing and maybe some small videos with the webcam if it doesn’t have sync problems. Will they all perform the same for the most part? 500GB of memory is plenty, I want the fastest for the most part.
dont get either, trust me. intel hd is hopelessly inadequate for video editing.
you’ll need a dedicated video card for the job, preferrably one equipped with gddr5 memory.
The HP. They are very reliable
Get a Toshiba Sattalite book because they are worth the money, they are reliable, durable, and the cost b/w $ 500 – $ 700 depending on the features.
If you are willing to pay bit more then you should get a dedicated graphics card from Nvidia or ATI Radeon on a Toshiba or Sony. As per ratings the quality of HP and Dell Laptops are down and they break easily. IBM Lenovo also builds robust products that last long. I DO NOT recommend Gateway Laptops to anyone as they are far more fragile and have a very bad customer service.
If you want to pick from the above then the HP should be a better choice. You do not need 6GB of RAM as an average system uses 2 GB and pushing it would utilize upto 3.5 GB only.
Note: USB 3.0 will not make your existing USB devices faster!!! You need a USB 3.0 compatible device like an external passport HDD which supports USB 3.0 to utilize it or else it will act as a regular USB 1.0 or 2.0 port.
