My 7 month old son is obsessed with mine and my husbands laptops. A friend of ours got ahold of one of the XO laptops free at a conference and we heard that they were extremely tough. Said friend gave it to us but I’m still rather worried that the baby is going to break it. Opinions?
Your 7 month old son is too young for the laptop now. He’ll just pull off the keys or the keyboard, like my oldest did when she was a year old. But once they’re old enough to know what it is, they’ll do fine. Its pretty rugged and you can repair it easy. It is really easy to spill drinks on it and fry it. So be careful about that. Buy a case for it and more, that will really help.
If your laptop is running, you shouldn’t be moving it at all. Even the slightest bump can destroy the hard drive.
If it’s off, it can withstand a few minor bumps, you should keep it in a laptop bag designed for one. It’ll help absorb those bumps.
Well, when i bought my macbook i remember i saw at the apples webpage its material, the plastic, was very similar to kevlar. 3 months ago, my brother throwed it to the floor, as a result, the DVD drive was damaged, but the hard disk thanks to a sudden motion sensor. Want a tough laptop, buy a Mac made with Aluminum.
It depends on the laptop. Some laptops such as the IBM Thinkpad, have a magnesium rollcage inside that would prevent some damage. And others such as the Panasonic Toughbook (http://www.panasonic.com/business/toughbook/notebook-computers.asp) are made to withstand tremendous pressure..
